David Weaver

David A. Weaver

David was born on February 28th, 1955 in Chester, PA, a son of Paul Weaver and Helen (Bordner) Weaver of Lancaster, PA. Dave was an active member of the 4-H Club of Delaware County for five years. An Eagle Scout at the age of 16, David served as a camp counselor at Resica Falls Scout Reservation in PA during his high school and college summers. He graduated from Penncrest High School in 1973 and went on to be an avid member of the Kutztown University (PA) Track and Field and Bowling teams before graduating in 1977 with a degree in both Elementary Education and Special Education. Kutztown is also where David met the true love of his life, his wife of 32 years, Patricia Anne (Thynge) Weaver of Hudson, NH formerly of Chaddsford, PA.

Prior to graduating from college, David was offered a job teaching at the Melmark Home for specials needs children. He later returned to his very own Penncrest High School as a special needs teacher. David maintained a number of other jobs throughout the business world before moving with his family to New Hampshire in 1997. There he founded the New England Catching Camp and has become extremely well known throughout the world as one of the premier authorities on the position in the baseball and softball communities. His passion for teaching was unmatched and his contributions to the lives of many youths during his life is unparalleled.

He was a man of great faith, being an elder at a young age within his family’s church, and an incredibly caring individual with a heart of gold. Anyone who knew David, knew he almost always had a smile on his face and would be quick to put one on yours by rattling off some sort of joke. He was an extraordinary husband, father, son, brother, uncle, teacher, coach, mentor and clinician.

Besides his loving wife Patricia and parents Paul and Helen, David is survived by his three sons: Jason of Hudson, NH; Joshua of Manchester, NH and Kevin of Hudson, NH; his daughter Emily of Hudson, NH; his daughter-in-law Andrea Johnson-Weaver of Manchester, NH; his brother Bruce and his wife Carol of Milford, DE; his sister Paula Levens of Media, PA; and his beloved dog Maggie. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Ricky; his son Ryan and his unborn daughter Elizabeth.

A memorial service in his honor will be held at 3:30pm on Thursday, June 23rd at Manchester Christian Church 1308 Wellington Rd. Manchester, NH, preceded by a receiving/visiting line starting at 2pm. The memorial service will be followed by a celebration of David’s life at 6pm at Play Ball 16 Industrial Way Salem, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Colon Cancer Alliance Organization directed toward the Dave Weaver CCA Memorial Fund by visiting www.ccalliance.org/donate/memorial.html.

Dave was a good man, and close friend during our Penncrest days.

Sorry to hear that David suffered with cancer and has passed away.  I very much enjoyed re-meeting David at the last reunion and I was disappointed to not connect with him at this one.  He knew that I had also lost a child and sought me out.  How wonderful that was.  It was to easy to talk to him about it probably because we shared a similar loss and I was impressed with him as a person.  He even kept in touch with me after the reunion a few times.

The world should have more people like him.  You were lucky to have him in your lives.

This is the worst thing I could hear.  David was a very true friend.  We spent very much time together. For a while we ran the boy scout troop together. We both became Eagle Scouts at the same time, working on many of the same projects. Went to 10 camping trips a year together. He was always a much better person than me, he probably kept me much more straght and narrow that I would have been.I live in texas and my Father would always keep me updated as to how he was doing. Enven though I have not seen him in a long time this is a great loss and I miss him now.
