Durand John O’Meara returned to the warm, embracing arms of his Heavenly Father on September 9,2017. Durand was born June 14, 1955, in Upper Darby, PA, to Joseph and Barbara O’Meara. He attended St. Alice’s Elementary School and Penncrest High School. He studied accounting and estimating at Delaware County Community College.

Durand was born a life-long entrepreneur and inventor. His prize invention was a pinball machine he built in the 2ndgrade. He started making benches for friends and neighbors at 10, and at 15, he started is first business venture cutting lawns and saving up until he was able to buy his first motorboat, christened “Katie I”. Then he continued in business with his friend “Simmy”, until he joined Amarnick Painting, where he helped grow and expand the company with innovative skill, training and administration.

During these early years of his career he forged some of his closest, life-long friendships, with Russ, Richard and Walt. He cherished their friendship and guidance, daily.

He left Amarnick and started A. Domco, Inc., in 1987, which he successfully stewarded for over 30 years as one of the premier painting companies in Chester County. Never wasting idle time, Durand spearheaded the company’s evolution and with the assistance of his dedicated and beloved friend, Jerome, developed various innovative accounting, job costing and sales, software programs.

Durand was a thinker, a planner and a romantic, he was a man who always looked for new challenges and set new goals, he never stopped teaching himself or learning. He inherited a love of boats from his father and spent untold days in Wildwood, NJ mastering seamanship, learning every inch and moving part of his boats Katie I, II and III, and the soul of every waterway from NJ to PA inlets.

He met the girl of his dreams who would become his wife, on a blind date on Dec. 21, 1990.  A decisive man met a decisive woman that night and allowed their romantic hearts to soar. He chose the stones for an engagement ring 3 weeks later, proposed 3 weeks after that, on Valentine’s Day, and they were wed 6 months and a day from their blind date, on June 22, 1991. He became a loving father of 3 wonderful, caring, and brilliant young men, who all follow his drive to live life fully.

Durand is survived by his wife, the luckiest girl in the world, Anita; his sons Durand John II, Brynan Joseph, and Collin Michael; his sisters Patricia Dragann, Barbara Josephine Shoemaker, and mother Barbara O’Meara; and his nieces and nephews who brought him joy and pride.

Durand inhabited a unique space in God’s world on earth and did his best to make this world a wonderful place. He has found peace with his God and his family in heaven. We all have a reservation to join him there, where he’ll have a Jamieson’s waiting for us all.

A private ceremony will be held for the family. in lieu of flowers, the family requests he be remembered through donations to the Dubrylin  Foundation for Higher Education. This fund will be established in the near future and information will be posted at that time.
