In Memory

Bobby Donati

Information submitted by Robin Waite:

Not sure you remember him, but Bobby Donati died of lukemia years ago [in 1991]. He was in his 30's [age 36] , and I had seen him prior to his death.

He was engaged to one of the singers [Vicki Peterson] from the girls who sang "Walk Like an Egyptian," can't remember the group, [The Bangles]

but they were at his viewing.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know.

October 20, 2008: This email was sent in from a radio DJ in California, remembering Bobby.

Today is Rocktober 20th, 2008 and for some reason I thought of Bobby & I googled his name. I knew Bobby when he played guitar with my then husband, bassist, Gordon Copley of the Lita Ford band. Bobby was a funny individual always looking for a laugh to keep things lighthearted. I knew him from 1984 to 1988 when we moved from No. Hollywood to UC Irvine. He made holes in Gordon's bass & they hung it to a tree to spray paint it. The bass was later bought by a bass player who played with Johnny Lydon of the Sex Pistols in 1988. I'll look for some old photos to send.

Sincerely, DJ Emeraldlorraine of KUCI 88.9fm

I remember when Bobby and his family moved to Media in the 4th grade. I fell in love with him on the spot. When we made it to 7th grade, our lives went in different directions. His crowd and mine were in very different places. At any rate, my family moved to Pittsburgh after 9th grade, and that was the last time I saw Bobby. Eventually we moved back to the area, and I was looking through the paper when I saw that Bobby had died. I went to the viewing, crying so hard, I couldn't speak to his family. They ended up comforting me at that point. Bobby was always very kind to me, and I feel blessed to have known some of his magic.

Bobby......I met Bob in 4th grade (RTE Mrs. Sibole's class). He had an adventurous spirit....to say the least, that I had never experienced till that time!

One of my memories of Bob was in 6th grade(Mr. Amann's class). Bob came to class that day w/ a pair of handcuffs, he showed them to me & handcuffed the two of us together. After a few moments, I asked to be uncuffed, he said " I don't have the keys"???? We were escorted to Mr. Laird's office & unshackled by the janitor, also received a tongue lashing from Mr. L.

From that time on, whenever Bob would involve me in one of his "adventures" I would ask...."you do have the keys to get us out of this, right"?

Lots of great memories of a true original.

I played music with Bobby and his brother Paul during high school. I used to see Paul in the Aston Acme, thats how id get updates on how Bobby was doing and later on what happened to him. He always wanted my Gibson sg but i wouldnt sell it to him even though he begged me everytime i saw him. I even worked at the Rose Tree hoagie shop with him for awhile. I thought i was working with all of the Three Stooges. He was funny and fun to be around.

I was friends with Bob and his family since the sixth grade at Rose Tree. Probably the funniest person I ever knew. Very creative, great guitarist, and talented artist. Admittedly was not very interested in academics and as proof filled out the SAT answer sheet to resemble the picture on the top of the Whitman Chocolot box. Cut down at the peak of his career. Engaged to a rock star, living in Hollywood Hills, accomplished studio musician for major recording artists, and about the last time I talked to him he was focusing on writing music for film. Cannot count the number of times he had the entire room howling in laughter. Life was good and way too short for him.

I remember him so well. The term wild man is very true. Talk about taking a walk on the wild side. I feel bad that this terrible disease took him at a early age.I remember some of the crazy bus rides home from school, with him. I think I attended a couple parties at his houuse. He lived off of providence Rd. Well He is with the other Rockers in Rock and Roll Heaven.

The man was a good guitarist and we had him playing the drums. How dumb were we. Maybe it was because had the drum set. Lots of days and nights practicing at my house driving my parents nuts. Those were the days.

I still remember Bobby and I getting into so much trouble in Mr. Flowers 5th grade class, that he put Bobby's desk on one side of his, and mine on the other. Then Mr.Flowers would turn that large ring around, and clock us in the back of the head. (anyone else remember being hit by that ring?) Then we moved on to Mr Abrams 6th grade class, and I was never sure who spent more time in admin office, me or him. Great friend growing up, and I still miss him when I see the Bangles video, and he's on the tour bus with them.

I first met Bobby through Boy Scouts. I was friends with his brother, Paul as he and I were in the same class. Our troop, 430, was uh, unique. It was a raffish, rowdy bunch and Bobby stood out in many ways. He was bright, talented, funny and pretty crazy, which was par for the troop.
I was shocked and dismayed to hear of his early passing, as Iknew he had made a successful living in some major pro Rock bands out in Cal. Who knows what he could have done by now? He's unforgettable, to say the least.

Somebody took my posting off of this. I said Bobby was my 1st love and you'll always love your 1st, good enough? I miss him and sometimes wish I could call and talk to him again. Debbie Hampton
Now, a story? My kids love Ozzy and have asked me what it was like back then, he was actually Bobby's fave and I bet he met him 'cause he played with Lita Ford, what's with all the girl bands, anyway I told them about one summer, Glenda Rickards, Niki price, Bobby and I stayed at the shore. Things were dull for a sec so Bobby decided to get out on the roof, naked, and scream I am Iron Man. The beat goes on.
